Suspicious Disappearance and Death of Tiffany Bettis

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help to solve a 2015 missing person investigation.

In March 2015, Tiffany Bettis (aka Melinda Smith) went missing. At the time she maintained a home in Fairview, Oregon and also lived in Roseburg, Oregon. She was reportedly last seen at the Quality Inn in Gresham around March 2, 2015.

She left behind three children and a large family that continues to miss her. Multiple people have reported to investigators that they believe Tiffany Bettis never would have left behind her children willingly.
 
On May 20, 2019, Tiffany's remains were discovered in the area of Chinook Landing Marine Park near Northeast 223rd Avenue and Marine Drive in Fairview.
 
The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office is seeking any information about Tiffany Bettis and her disappearance.  Foul play has not been ruled out.

Homicide of Jessica Newton

The Clark County (WA) Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help to solve a homicide.

On January 2, 2015, the body of 40-year-old Jessica Newton was discovered near the Columbia River in Clark County, Washington. The condition of her body was suspicious to investigators.

Little information is known about Newton’s whereabouts or acquaintances in mid-to-late December 2014. Newton was known to frequent East Portland and Downtown Portland homeless services.

Homicide of Jerry and Helen Ephrem
October 30, 2014

Crime Stoppers Featured Case #14-44
 
Portland Police Bureau Homicide detectives, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, are asking for the public's help to solve a double homicide that occurred in Northeast Portland's Hazelwood Neighborhood.

On Thursday October 30, 2014, at 12:32 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to a residence in the 600 block of Northeast 114th Avenue on the report of a possible deceased person inside the home.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and made entry into the residence where they found 65-year-old Jerry Ephrem and his wife, 65-year-old Helen Ephrem, deceased due to homicidal violence.
 
There is no suspect information in this case or any known reason why the victims would be targeted for violence.

Homicide of Michael Olson
September 30, 2014

Crime Stoppers Featured Case #14-39
 
The Portland Police Bureau, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public’s help to solve a homicide that occurred in the Woodstock Neighborhood of Southeast Portland.

On Tuesday September 30, 2014, at 11:08 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to the report of a shooting in the 6100 block of Southeast 52nd Avenue.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and located the victim, 30-year-old Michael William Olson, deceased after suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. Olson resided in the Woodstock Neighborhood.

Homicide investigators believe Olson was killed in the course of a robbery.

An eyewitness described the suspect as possibly being a light-skinned African American or Hispanic male.

A forensic sketch of the suspect has been released to aid in this investigation.

Homicide of Paul Krekeler
July 22, 2014

Crime Stoppers Featured Case #14-28
 
The Portland Police Bureau, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help in solving a homicide that occurred in Southeast Portland’s Woodstock Neighborhood.

On Tuesday July 22, 2014, at 10:56 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to the report of a shooting at Southeast 57th Avenue and Harold Street. As officers were en route to the scene, additional information was broadcast that a male adult was on the ground injured.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and located the victim and determined that he was deceased.

The Oregon State Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on the victim, 19-year-old Paul William Krekeler, and determined that he died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

Detectives have learned that several neighborhood residents heard several gunshots prior to the discovery of Krekeler’s body. Krekeler appears to have run northbound on 57th Avenue before collapsing in a yard on the southwest corner of 57th Avenue and Harold Street. The residents of the home do not appear to have any connection to Krekeler.

Witnesses reported to police that a white SUV or truck was seen leaving southbound on 57th after the gunshots, but it is not been confirmed that this vehicle is related to the shooting.

No motive has been determined in the shooting.

Homicide of Lazaro Fuentes
May 12, 2014

Crime Stoppers Featured Case #14-18
 
On Monday May 12, 2014, at 3:04 a.m., North Precinct officers responded to the Northeast 59th Avenue and Simpson Street on the report that neighbors found a deceased male, who appeared to have a gunshot wound, seated inside a parked vehicle.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and checked inside the vehicle, where they located a deceased male, later identified as 16-year-old Lazaro Lizandro Fuentes-Burgos, who resides in Southeast Portland's Lents Neighborhood.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim suffered fatal gunshot wounds while he was sitting in the driver's seat of a red 1994 Nissan Sentra. Neighbors reported hearing possible gunshots at approximately 1:40 a.m. but did not call 9-1-1 so police were not notified of the shooting until more than an hour later.

At this point in the investigation there is no suspect information.

The Oregon State Medical Examiner performed an autopsy and determined that Lazaro died of multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim has no known gang or drug ties and the motive for this shooting is not known to investigators.

The Hillsboro Police Department, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help to solve a 2014 homicide. 

On January 16, 2014, 58-year-old Pablo Perez-Angeles, a grandfather, was murdered in his Hillsboro, Oregon residence. Detectives believe that there are additional witnesses with information that may lead to an arrest.

Crime Stoppers Featured Case #15-39
 
The Portland Police Bureau, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help to solve a 2013 homicide.

On October 31, 2013, at 10:02 a.m., North Precinct officers responded to the 3800 block of Northeast Shaver Street on the report of a person slumped in a vehicle.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and determined that the person was deceased. After a preliminary investigation, Homicide detectives were called to the scene.

The Oregon State Medical Examiner determined that the victim, 32-year-old Jose Manuel Alvarez-Madrigal, died of a gunshot wound.

No witnesses have come forward and there is no suspect information in the case.

Homicide of Donte' Young

The Portland Police Bureau, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help in solving a North Portland homicide.

On October 7, 2013, at approximately 2:00 p.m., North Precinct officers responded to the report of a shooting in the 9500 block of North Burr Avenue. Officers arrived and located 33-year-old Donte' Al-Wa'Keel Young deceased from a gunshot wound to the head.

Officers talked with a number of witnesses at the scene and learned that a large group of people fled the area before police arrived. Detectives believe these witnesses may have information critical to the investigation.

Homicide of Robert Greene
February 19, 2012

Crime Stoppers Featured Case #12-09
 
Investigating Agency: Portland Police Bureau
 
The Portland Police Bureau, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for your help in solving a 2012 homicide that occurred in Southeast Portland.

On Sunday February 19, 2012, at 1:28 a.m., Central Precinct officers responded to the report of a shooting outside the Grand Central Restaurant and Bowling Lounge, located in the 800 block of Southeast Morrison Street. 

Officers arrived and located a shooting victim, 30-year-old Robert Greene, suffering from traumatic injuries. Medical personnel arrived and determined that Mr. Greene was deceased. An autopsy conducted later in the day determined that Mr. Greene died of single gunshot wound. Mr. Greene was employed at the Grand Central Restaurant and Bowling Lounge. 

The only suspect information at this point is that the shooter is a Black male. Investigators know that there were several witnesses outside at the time of the shooting but these eyewitnesses have not provided information to detectives.
