Victims Helen & Jerry Ephrem

Portland Police Bureau Homicide detectives, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, are asking for the public’s help to solve a double homicide that occurred in Northeast Portland’s Hazelwood Neighborhood.

On Thursday October 30, 2014, at 12:32 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to a residence in the 600 block of Northeast 114th Avenue on the report of a possible deceased person inside the home.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and made entry into the residence where they found 65-year-old Jerry Ephrem and his wife, 65-year-old Helen Ephrem, deceased due to homicidal violence. Detectives are not releasing the cause and manner of death at this time.

There is no suspect information and no known reason why anyone would want to hurt the victims. The Portland Police Bureau is asking neighbors to be extra vigilant as this investigation develops.

Anyone with information about this investigation, including anyone in the neighborhood who saw or heard anything, should contact detectives.

Witnesses may contact the investigators directly or, to remain anonymous, they may provide information through Crime Stoppers of Oregon.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that leads to an arrest in this case, or any unsolved felony, and tipsters can remain anonymous.

Information learned from social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter or YouTube should be shared with investigators as these tips may lead to the identification of a suspect or suspects. Links can be shared directly with investigators or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
